The Call of the Wild concerns a dog named Buck, whose instincts return to him after acting as the lead sled dog in the dangerous Yukon during the 19th-century Klondike Gold rush. This is Jack London’s most-read book, and is often considered juvenile because the protagonist is a dog, but it contains many violent and dark scenes inside.
I enjoyed this book, and it was a good one to end the year with. It is a very easy read, and fairly short - less than 200 pages. I quickly sympathized with Buck, and wanted him to get in a good situation. It takes a while and lot of turmoil, but he eventually does - at least temporarily. If you’ve never read The Call of the Wild, or any Jack London for that matter, give it a try!
