Lorenzo, host of the Psychedelic Salon podcast, released his audio book last week. Its title is The Genesis Generation and it is the story of a 29 year-old yuppie becoming a part of the psychedelic “tribe.” I conducted an interview with Lorenzo back in April that shed some light on the book for me. You can check it out here.
The book is eleven hours long, and it is chock full of layers of psychedelia, grief and sorrow, happiness and understanding. The story follows our protagonist, Will, along his path to the tribe. He begins as a corporate employee for the computer industry, and runs into some legal trouble with the Feds while returning from a trip abroad. Along the way to his trial, he rekindles with an old hometown sweetheart, tries a few sacred medicines and builds a strong network of friends that help him out of the goodness of their hearts.
I was a bit confused throughout the book if it was autobiographical or not, but Lorenzo seems to have used a method of writing that I always found interesting... he spins together a tale that includes real events as well as fictional tidbits. At least, that’s how the story seemed to be written to me. I really liked the explanation of The Genesis Generation, which is that the members of that generation are not defined by age - they are defined by when they joined the psychedelic tribe. You see, the genesis generation is the group of people who joined the tribe at an early time. These are the people who will be integral during the consciousness shift that is due any time now. But don’t take my word for it - you’ll have to check out Lorenzo’s book to get the full explanation. I definitely enjoyed the story, and look forward to his upcoming installments in the series.
